The baby is doing great. As usual, the 16 week appointment was pretty noneventful. I was able to hear the baby's heartbeat again, which I love. Lil Lump's heart rate is 149. The nurse and PA did not seem too excited that I sunburned the baby, but I didn't get in trouble like I thought I would. :).
My next appointment is scheduled for July 20th and it is the BIG ultrasound! Bill and I are so excited to find out whether it is lil' she lump or lil' he lump. I cannot wait to start buying stuff!!

14 & 15 week photo
Sorry I am a little behind in pictures. Here are the 14 and 15 week pictures.
I would like to highlight the 15 week picture by saying that I think I am getting a little junk in my trunk. Whoop Whoop!

Father's day
For the first father's day, I wanted to get Bill something sentimental. Don't get me wrong, in the future I will likely get him something he wants and is all about him to thank him for the hard work. But, as of now, he hasn't had to do too much, so I insisted on getting him a sentimental present.
So, I bought Bill a book he could read the baby. The book is Guess How Much I Love You, which is all about a parent's love for their child. Inside the book, I wrote a letter to the lil lump about how lucky he/she is to have Bill for a dad. This is what the letter said:
Congratulations, God has given you the best dad on the planet. Even though you are not here yet, your dad loves you so much!
God must have big plans for you to give you the dad he did. Let me tell you a few things about your dad. he is so loyal; you should know that your dad will always be your biggest fan. You dad is also very protective. I will never have to worry about you knowing that your dad is taking care of both of us. Your dad is also very fun. I imagine that you will have the best memories of the things you guys will do together. God has also given you a dad that knows how to protect, support and encourage. You are very lucky for this.
When I saw this book, I knew that it described perfectly how much your dad loves you! I hope you never forget that.
Love, your mom.

Motivation
Nothing like three cribs in your living room when a new couch is being delivered in three days to get your butt in gear. Top that with the fact that the foundation for veterans would be in the neighborhood in two days to pick up donations for their resale shop and you got yourself a true spring cleaning party! Well, it was a party for me at least, but more like work for Bill.
In addition to picking up three cribs, Bill and I organized the guest room and nursery. Although I had already organized the nursery closet, I decided that I wanted the current guest room to the the nursery, so I had to start back at square one. Pretty much all day Sunday we organized and organized and organized. By the end of the day Sunday, we had a pile of donations for the disabled verterens that covered our entire front porch. It felt good to get rid of all that stuff! Now if we could just find out what this baby is so that I can start decorating.

Whirlwind weekend
Talk about a whirlwind weekend for pregnancy. Lets start with Friday. Friday was the best day I have had in a long time. At approximately 7:30, while watching shark tank (love that show), I felt the baby move. It was just the smallest flutter, but I knew that it was the baby. I tried to remain very calm because I knew if my heart was beating too fast, I would miss any more baby movements. At first, I wasn't going to tell Bill because I thought he wouldn't believe me. However, after feeling it a few more times, I thought, I don't want him to miss out on this. So, I told him. His response, "You have been reading to many pregnancy books." (eye roll here). After I insisted that no, it is the baby I promise, he believed me and I think got a little jealous. I feel bad for him. I hope he gets to feel the baby soon.
Saturday and Sunday, we had a great day of picking up cribs, organizing, and de-junkifying (more on that later). Around 7:30 Sunday night, right before Bill and I were leaving to pick up dinner, I passed out. Just when I thought this pregnancy thing couldn't be any easier on me, Bill's biggest fear came true. I am not really sure how it happened. All I know is that I went into the kitchen to get a drink of water before putting on my shoes to leave the house. Shortly after I took a big gulp of water, I got a sharp pain in my upper abdomen and became really dizzy really fast. I told Bill that I needed to lie down (he was in the bathroom not the kitchen), and before I made it to the bed or Bill made it to help me, I just passed out in the bedroom floor. Bill said I hit my head pretty hard on the end of the bed, but I didn't have a headache or bruise, so I guess we know that I am, in fact, a hard head. Once I came to, I was fine. Bill on the other hand was not. I am sure he would put me in a bubble for the rest of this pregnancy if he could. Instead, he will be watching my sugar intake and water consumption like a hawk. No more Kripsy Kreme donuts for me. Oh well, it was fun while it lasted.

Cribs
Bill and I have purchased a crib. Well, 3 cribs to be exact. Before you starting thinking that I have lost my frugal ways, let me explain. There are new federal regulations being implemented June 28, 2011 which primarily prohibit the sale of drop down cribs but also impose new testing standards on all cribs, whether drop down or stationary. Many cribs on the market today do not comply with the new regulations, and therefore, cannot be sold after June 28, 2011. What this means for Bill, Lil Lump and I is that we get one heck of a deal on a great crib.
A furniture store in OKC is currently having a sale on all cribs that do not meet the regulations. The cribs I purchased are regularly priced at $500 - $800 dollars, and we were able to purchase for $100 each (well, $99.97 but whose keeping track). I intended to purchase two knowing that my mother-in-law wanted a crib at her house for Lil Lump and all future grandchildren. However, I could not decide between 3 cribs. So, I bought them all with the intention of giving one to my mother-in-law and selling one. Now I just have to decide which one we will use. Here are the options. The second one is actually espresso and the third white.
Thoughts? Would anyone like to vote on their favorite? I am thinking the second one (in espresso) if it is a boy and the third one (in white) if it is a girl.

13 weeks
I don't know about you guys but I think of two things when I see this picture: (1) I am ready to see less blubber and more baby, and (2) Bill is going to need to back up or my belly will soon not fit into the picture.

12 week photo
Well, we made it to the end of the first trimester. Looking at my pictures, without a doubt you can see the belly growing to make room for the baby. Here is the 12 week photo.
When Bill took this picture, he instantly said "Oh boy."
I should probably start taking pictures at the same time every week. Sometimes, I take pictures in the morning when I get home from boot camp. Other times, like the one above, I take the picture late a night after I have had a huge bowl of sausage spaghetti. Then again, maybe it is just me making myself feel better by thinking I am not walking around like a rolly polly all day.
I have noticed that unlike some pregnant women, I do not have just a cute lower belly bump. My bump has grown from the middle of my ribs all the way to my hips. At least as of right now, my belly is the only thing that seems to have grown. I am sure the rest will come shortly.

Nursery
After taking this picture, I had the following conversation with the baby:
Me: So, what do you think? Do you want to just share are room with us for a while?
Baby: No thank you. (I know, the baby has great manners already!)
Me: Come on, it will be fun and there is a T.V.
Baby: Just clean the room, it won't be that bad.
Me: How about you can stay in our room and when you get old enough, you can clean this mess and decorate the room yourself.
Baby: Listen lady, the only thing stopping you from peeing in your pants everyday for the next 6 months is my willingness to not sit, step, or jump on your bladder. All I am asking for is a clean room.
Me: Bill, the baby needs you to clean the nursery!
In all seriousness, I decided to just start with the closet. Here is what it looked like before:
Yes, the junk continues to the ends of the closet that you cannot see. About an hour and half later, it looked like this:
How did I clean it so fast, you ask? I did what any responsible adult would do, of course. I simply moved everything from the nursery closet into the guest room closet and called it a day. Just kidding, sort of. Seriously though, I need ideas for how to organize the closet. Bill and I feel pretty comfortable building any shelves, drawers, etc., we just need creative ideas of what to include in the closet. So, especially you all that have kids, what do you suggest? The closet extends approximately 12 inches past each door.

First Trimester Review
Now that I have officially began the second trimester, aka the glory period of pregnancy, it is only appropriate that I summarize my experience of the first trimester. Sure, there were small bouts of nausea, particularly if I was very hungry or ate too much. I could, and still can, win any burping contest available. And, the two - three week period of exhaustion was unlike anything I have experienced before. These symptoms, however, do not explain what the first trimester was like for me. Instead, it can be summed up in three simple letters: PMS.
As weird as it may seem, for the last 2 1/2 months I've felt as if I am stuck in a cycle of PMS. You know, the urge to eat only unhealthy foods, serious bloat that Bill has conveniently named "the pot belly", and last but definitely not least, the uncontrollable mood swings. Normally, when people say things that I think are not thought out (aka ridiculous), I usually take a second or two to think about how I want to respond. However, lately, before I can even gather my thoughts to respond, my face has already told it all. It is as if my face responds with "Really? You really just said that."
Now, I know you guys probably think you have seen this face before, and you have. It usually rears its short-tempered, judgemental head about once a month. However, since my brain has focused on more important tasks (hello, we are making a baby here), my face is left to monitor itself. It is dangerous, I tell you, just dangerous. Let's not take a poll on how many people have seen this reaction out of me in the last 2 1/2 months. That would only result in poking the beast.
Here's to hoping that it stays hidden for at least a few months. No promises regarding my behavior during the third trimester.

Pregnancy, Jodi Cole style....
In my opinion, there is only one way to do this pregnancy thing: pampered. Thanks to my great friends I am rocking this pregnancy in style.
Since I figure you guys do not want to see me in the bathtub (the bare belly pictures are likely all you can handle), you are just going to have to imagine me in this nice, hot bubble bath. Don't worry, I am not boiling the baby. At least I don't think I am.
My great friend Ashley, who recently had her first child, Mattox, sent me Belly Laughs by Jenny McCarthy. I can't wait to read it! The mask, bubble bath, and "Bill bell" were a present from my good friend Susanna, a shareholder at my law firm. Bill is not so sure about the "Bill bell". Heck, he even tried to use it on me once. Needless to say, I did not come running to wait on him hand and foot.

12 week Dr's Appointment
Any other moms out there feel like an expert pee-in-cuper? I swear I have peed in more cups in the last 2 1/2 months than I have in my life. In fact, I am pretty sure that before this year, the last time I peed in a cup was in high school. I should just start keeping a stock.
Aside from the gross urine samples you are not interested in but that I feel obligated to share, the hospital visit today was pretty routine. I was able to hear the baby's heartbeat again. The heartbeat is currently 158 bpm, which is great according to the doctor. All afternoon I could hear that little sound in my head. Love that sound! Our next appointment is June 29th, at which time I will be 16 weeks.
Bill and I announced our pregnancy on Facebook today. This is important because now everyone in the entire world knows we are expecting! Two of my Facebook friends also announced pregnancies within the last couple days and I know several others who are pregnant. I think we are in the middle of a baby boom!! For all those who do not have a Facebook, here is the photo I posted:
